/// TRAPPIST TOUR OF BELGIUM 2016

Trappist Tour of Belgium 2016
October 8–17, 2016 | Presented by Belgian Beer Me! Beer Tours
Join the Celebrator’s “Big Mike” Moore for the Lonely Monks Trappist Beer Tour of Belgium and the Netherlands! The tour takes place October 8–17, 2016.

The Celebrator is proud to announce this very ambitious tour, which will visit eight Trappist abbeys (six in Belgium and two just across the border in the Netherlands) and sample their beers. While the theme of this tour will be Trappist ales, you will experience many other beer styles, too.

The designation of “Trappist” is a legal one and encompasses a range of styles rather than a single distinct one. The eight Trappist breweries are Westmalle, Westvleteren, Orval, Chimay, Rochefort, Achel, La Trappe and de Kievit. Other breweries we will visit include De Halve Maan and the De Struise taproom/bottle shop in Bruges.

You’ll experience the four corners of Belgium as we traverse the country to visit these abbeys, from the bucolic farmlands of West Flanders to the pristine Ardennes Mountains of Wallonia to the beautiful countryside of the northern Limburg Province and the Netherlands. Fine cuisine, inviting hotels and beery camaraderie will be front and center, along with sightseeing, shopping and plenty of free time to unwind, explore and discover the beauty of Belgium.

Many of the Trappist breweries are not open to the public, but our tour guide, Stu Stuart of Belgian Beer Me!, has connections that may make it possible to visit some places generally not accessible to the public. “Often we will not know until we arrive, or shortly before, just what will be possible. Thus we cannot make promises,” said Stuart.

Fine cuisine, inviting hotels and beery camaraderie will be front and center, along with sightseeing, shopping and plenty of free time to unwind, explore and discover the beauty of Belgium.
What we will do is experience the terroir and see at least the exteriors of the Trappist abbeys and breweries. We will visit the official and unofficial brewery taps to sample the beers fresh from the brewery.

Stuart and his company, Belgian Beer Me!, did a fantastic job on our last Celebrator tour in the spring of 2015. See the cover story of the June/July 2015 issue for the report.

Moore’s extensive judging experience (since 1988) and more than 15 years of hosted and planned beer dinners will contribute to your understanding and enjoyment of this tour experience. His extensive travel to Europe to study beer styles, local food and beer’s importance in culture also will contribute to your appreciation of this excursion.

Plans call for overnights in Brussels, Bruges, Mont, Tilburg (Netherlands) and Mechelen. As an option for the October departure, combine this tour with the Best Damn Farmhouse Ale Tour of Belgium and France the week preceding this Trappist Tour and have a full two weeks in Beer Paradise!

Plan now to be a part of the Celebrator/Belgian Beer Me! tour. For more information, go to belgianbeerme.com.
