ROLLING BOIL
BLUES BAND HISTORY
The group started with infrequent beer-infused jams
at Roger Lind's brewery in San Leandro in the late 80s.
They first played out at Judy Ashworth's Lyon's Brewery
Depot pub in Dublin, Calif. as part of her homebrew
competition judging. This included the embarrassing
Brew Dude Fashion Show! Tom Dalldorf, publisher of the
Celebrator Beer News, contributed some beer parody tunes
and before long the band was being asked to perform
at beer festivals like the Boonville Beer Fest in California's
Anderson Valley.
The band now plays nearly a dozen gigs a year including
Anchorage, Alaska (Great Alaskan Beer Festival) and
Portland, Oregon (Oregon Brewers Festival). When traveling,
the band enlists the help of local musicians who are
in the brewing industry. The recent gig at Stubb's BBQ
in Austin, Texas included Marty Jones on harp (Celebrator,
Denver), John Harris on washboard (Full Sail, Portland),
Craig Hartinger on bass (Merchant du Vin, Seattle) and
Wilber Sahs on drums (Austin) along with Tom Dalldorf's
inimitable vocals and guitar, ah, stylings (Hayward).
Their big gig each year is at the Celebrator's Anniversary
Party, held the last few years at Trumer Brauerei in
Berkeley, California. Performing with them at that venue
was the house band from the Anchor Brewery in San Francisco
called the Hysters (named after their fork lift).
